When Alison married Rigby Toan, money was plentiful, they were young, in love, and full of plans. Then the world changed and recession hit the south of England. For Alison, too, the world changes. One day the VAT inspector arrives on her doorstep with the news that her husband has failed to pay what he owes. This is not to be the end of the story. During the following months it becomes apparent that Rigg has the soul of a born deceiver. Watching from his position as private investigator, sent to discover what Rigby is up to, Morgan is both attracted to, and pities the little family.
