In a meticulously controlled future, Cassia is raised in a world where choices are made for her by the Society. From whom she will love to her career path, every aspect of her life is dictated by officials, aiming to create a flawless existence. As Cassia approaches her pairing ceremony, where she expects to find her perfect match, she experiences a shocking twist that challenges everything she has known.

When the screen shows an unexpected face alongside her match, she is compelled to explore the boundaries of love, desire, and the constraints of the Society. Torn between her designated partner and her newfound feelings for her unexpected match, Cassia embarks on a journey of self-discovery, rebellion, and the search for true freedom. As she delves deeper into the limitations of her world, she begins to question the very foundations of the Society, ultimately striving for a life that embraces her own choices.

Damn this book was slow and boring. And much of it isnt even very original. It feels like it took pieces from The Giver and Hunger Games and a couple of other popular dystopia books and tried to smash it all together into its own seties. Its a long book on its own, but a good 70% of it is just to stretch it out into a series. Its proof that just because you can make a story into a series doesn't mean you should. I was frequently bored by all the "not much happening" that goes on in this story and just when it finally starts to get interesting, it ends and you're supposed to invest in another whole book to get the next part. Nope, I gave this author 360 odd pages to tell the story. That's a decent length in the first place. I'm not wasting more time and money because the author wants to have a series where (if the first book is anything to go by) a single book would have easily sufficed to tell everything that can be told of this story. There just isn't anywhere near the content and entertainment to justify this being a series instead of a single, medium length novel.
