Descrição
Violence is one of the most pressing problems in society today, and one of the most studied phenomena – not only in criminology, but also in international relations, political science, history of political thought, psychology, sociology, anthropology, public health, economics and philosophy. Rethinking Violence provides a much needed, multi-disciplinary analysis of the complexity of violence. The aim of the book is to bring together in one volume different approaches, and methodologies, to the study of violence. This exercise is valuable not only because it suggests ways in which different disciplines can learn from one another, but also because it encourages each branch of learning to reassess their conception, understanding and evaluation of violence. Coming from their own unique perspective, the contributors to this volume address the following three key questions about How should the concept of violence be defined? What are the different dimensions embodied by the act of violence? Can violence be distinguished, and how, from the idea of injustice? This book was orginally published as a special issue of Global Crime .
