Descrição

Paige Mahoney emerges from the harrowing confines of Sheol I, her mind still grappling with the chaotic memories of her imprisonment. In the labyrinthine streets of London, she finds herself entangled in the dangerous politics of the Mime Order, a secret society composed of clairvoyants. This hidden world opens up a spectrum of possibilities and evils, forcing Paige to negotiate her identity and her loyalties amid rising tensions.

As she navigates the power dynamics and intrigue of the Mime Order, she uncovers deeper layers of corruption that threaten all she holds dear. With enemies lurking in the shadows, Paige must learn to harness her unique powers while seeking out the truth behind the mysterious forces manipulating the city. Each heartbeat draws her closer to a confrontation with old foes and new alliances.

While she gathers her friends around her, Paige realizes that trust is a rare commodity in a world riddled with betrayal. Her journey of self-discovery transcends mere survival; it becomes a quest for belonging and justice in a society that deems her kind as outcasts. The stakes have never been higher, and as she fights to protect those she loves, the consequences of her choices could alter the fate of London itself.

Through gripping encounters and emotional upheaval, Paige's resilience shines brightly. She learns that the bonds formed in darkness can illuminate the strongest paths to freedom. In this fierce struggle for autonomy and acceptance, she discovers that true power lies not only in her abilities but also in her unwavering spirit, ready to redefine what it means to be a warrior in a world filled with shadows.

I leapt into this book after reading the first, but I have had a busy time lately and I've only just finished the book. it's a slow burn book, in both plot and the relationship between Paige and Warden.I felt that this book was easier to understand the clairvoyant world, but once or twice I would highlight and search up a clairvoyant name to understand what type they were. The world building that the books set in creates a vicious place most of the time, when Paige was out and about in , I read it with a slight anxiety to whether she would be betrayed or caught by Scion.London was never a City I liked to visit (I don't like any city really) but I can definitely imagine the unnatural Assembly thriving living in and around the amaurotics (the unsighted or normal humans)one of the most vivid descriptions of despair was the area of bermondsey, where the Vile Augers are banished... was one of the areas that when reading the paragraphs, the despair and depression was so vivid in my imagination. overall this book built up the tension of what Paige is trying to achieve, and at the end, I thought maybe she would have a chance... but after reading the end and the prelude of 'A Song Rising' , I have no clue what the author is planning...I'm going to get book 3 and see 🫣
