Jaffar as a morally grey MMC. I enjoyed reading this, but felt like something was missing.
I absolutely loved this book, I struggled with book #3 and wasn't expecting this one to be as good as it was. It was a fast read!
3.7 ~ 4 It was really fun, I just wished the FMC was a bit stronger (emotionally). What I loved was that lack of miscommunication. Honestly, there was a point in this book where the book could have lost all its stars, but no, the characters talked and handled it like adults, and I just love that.Finally, I love an MMC who is just obsessed with the FMC, and Julian is that. My guy literally the trope"I will burn the world for you". Plus, it is also hate to love and marriage of convenience, so what's better than that.
I'll be honest, it took me a bit to like Julian. I don't know why it was so different with him than it was from the others. With James, Tristan, and Evelina, I loved them almost instantly. But with Julian it took time and I have no idea why. Regardless, I did end up liking him.I can say that, from the beginning, I didn't like Aidan, the boy Yasmin loved, or thought she loved.As I read, I was convinced Aidan was going to cheat on Yasmin when he went to Egypt. Although, the further I went, the more I started to see how that choice might have made things more difficult. The thing with Julian is that he was never first choice. He was always second. And if Aidan had been caught cheating, that would have still made it feel like Julian was not the first choice. So it is never straight up said if he cheated though it was possibly implied.One thing that did happen that I was predicting was that Aidan was not as honest as he appeared. I was suspicious when Julian and he were talking about Aidan working for him. The way Aidan spoke to Yasmin just did not sit right. And the flip actually made sense. Thinking about about even the Disney version of Aladdin, it would still fit if you look at that movie differently and not with the rose colored glasses that Disney put on it.I really enjoyed this series though and I am looking forward to Crossed when it comes out in August. I am interested to see how the story will unfold there. I can imagine it being a slow-burn, like this and Scarred were simply because one of the characters is a priest. I'm very interested to see how that one goes.
