Hippolyte Léon Denizard Rivail, more commonly known as Allan Kardec, was a French educator and the founder of the spiritualist movement known as Spiritism. He was born in Lyon and spent much of his life developing and popularizing the principles of Spiritism, which sought to explore the relationship between the physical and spiritual worlds. Kardec published several influential works that laid the foundation for the movement, including 'The Book of Spirits' and 'The Book of Mediums', both of which detail the philosophy and practices of Spiritism.
