It tries too hard to be funny, ends up not being very funny at all. Giving Ready Player One vibes, but way less exciting in every metric.
It was a really quick and fun read, the world was well explained and rounded to me. But how tf was not a single kaiju described? Like the only thing we for was "it has wings" "something as a tentacle" "godzilla", like every kaiju in this book cant be like godzilla cmonn. It was hard to imagine the main kaiju the story, Bella, like i just know she has wings 🥀
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and the pace of it didn't slow down for a moment. What really got me was the way the author built the world of the Kaiju. It was amazing.
this book is funI had such a good time reading it, and the world its build is incredible. the writer himself says in a little snippet at the end that this book is like a pop song - something to bring joy and then you move on from, and that is what it is. It's not life changing or groundbreaking - it's a simple story told well. It is a perfect formula of new guy thrown into a strange job that ends up packed with action stakes and unbelievable cretures. it be the kinda cheesey action monster flick that I'd enjoy watching drunk with a bunch of mates. you don't watch it because it's incredible cinema you watch it cause it is kinda trashy (positive)there are some moments in this story that do gove you a gut wrenching pang of emotion, and the real world like of a life with covid is a keystone that makes it all the more real of a story - but those moments dont stop it being fun, silly and most of all entirely human. I found myself agree with the characters like yes, that is exactly how to react well donei knocked a star off of this simple because it was that cheesey predictable story that I just can't say is 5 stars in my heart, i enjoyed it - I am happy to leave it and maybe if I feel the mood strike id give it a read again
