This is an unpopular opinion of mine, but I felt like this book was quite anti-climatic and predictable. The beginning got me hooked and then it just declined for me. The illustrations were really unique, the idea behind this book was interesting and the messages behind the tales were nice. I also really liked the characters, yet I wasn't as amazed when I finished the book. Yes, it was upsetting, however I just felt a lack of something within the plot.
Dit boek is een van mijn alltime favorites. Het is zo mooi. Het doet altijd pijn, hoe vaak ik hem ook lees... Dit boek is gewoon prachtig.
Genuinely the best book I've ever read, I own 3 copies of it.
it's so heartwarming in a way of how realistic it is with the emotions during such hard struggles. i got emotional in the last half of the book with the acceptance and realising what the boy already knew deep down. patrick ness made a real devastating situation more easily understood without it being too dark. it's based on a boy and his mother, who is struggling with a illness, go through day to day seeing the mom improve to decline in waves. the novel involved family problems too who are equally realistic characters in a lot of families. this might not be a book for everyone but i know it'll hit home to people who have experienced loss with parents or loss in this topic overall. it's genuinely a beautiful read
