Set in a richly constructed world filled with intricate lore and memorable characters, Samantha Shannon's standalone prequel invites readers into a time of upheaval and uncertainty. In this vivid landscape, the delicate balance between humans and dragons hangs by a thread, as ancient tensions resurface. The narrative weaves together various perspectives, illuminating the complexities of loyalty, love, and the struggle for power.
Through compelling character arcs, Shannon explores the deep-seated beliefs and choices that shape their destinies. Each character faces their own trials, decisions that can either strengthen their bonds or fracture their communities. Their paths converge in ways that reveal the interconnected nature of their fates, underscoring the ripple effect of individual choices.
The tension builds as the looming threat of chaos draws ever closer, propelling both familiar and new characters into a whirlwind of conflict and self-discovery. This is a tale of courage in the face of darkness, where hope flickers like a candle amidst encroaching shadows.
As readers turn each page, they find themselves enraptured in the beauty of Shannon's prose, which captures both the grandeur of the world and the intimate struggles of its inhabitants. This journey promises a captivating exploration of legacy and the ties that bind across generations.

Like Priory, Fallen Night is sometimes long and ponderous while other times page-turning and tense. I deeply appreciated the themes of motherhood and pregnancy especially Glorian's perspective as I deeply resonated with her experience. I also have to call out that Fallen Night does an excellent job being a queer normative society throughout.
