Guys. I’m so torn on this one. I wanted to LOVE it so much. Everyone seems to love it so much! And I did really enjoy it for the most part… but I have some questions and… feelings. lol This was not the typical vampire/werewolf book that I expected but I thought it was an interesting take on the genre and lore. Definitely more romance focused than any extensive world building, but one major thing that I feel should have been more adequately explained, as it’s the main basis of the book, is the entire premise of the marriage. It didn’t really make sense to me. If everyone KNEW it wasn’t a real marriage and it worked the exact same way as the Collateral program with the humans… why WASN’T it just the Collateral program? Especially as traditional marriage was a human tradition and not something either the vampires or werewolves normally did. The marriage didn’t really seem to do anything for the plot one way or another either so I guess I’m just confused about how/why it needed to happen. Otherwise, I liked the mystery and political aspect and didn’t see the who, what, and why coming. I really enjoyed the little headers for each chapter giving insight into the Lowe’s thoughts and I really liked Misery and her blunt wittiness. She made me chuckle out loud several times. As for the romance, I loved them together. I loved the banter and chemistry but I could have done WITHOUT the spice in this book - iykyk. I have never CRINGED so hard! It took away from it for me and probably would have been 4 stars otherwise.
I definitely disliked this way more than I thought. I have read my fair share of paranormal romances and enjoyed them and this just wasn't it.I don't want to shame the entire book. I enjoyed two characters (Ana and Koen) for the little time we saw them. I am not sure if Ali Hazelwoods writing is just not for me or if it was just this book, I do plan on trying Check & Mate though.Sadly though, this just felt like badly written fanfic (I read some great ones, not shitting on fan fic as a whole). The world building and fantasy elements completely fell flat though and felt very much like a badly written and researched fantasy debut.
Bride by Ali Hazelwood was exactly the story I needed to pull me out of my reading slump. From the moment I met Misery Lark, with her reluctant, steely resolve and sharp wit, I was completely immersed. Misery’s character, an outcast forced back into the Vampyre world, brings a refreshing blend of resilience and vulnerability to this vampire-werewolf alliance plot. She’s not your typical heroine, and that’s what makes her journey with Lowe, the Were Alpha, all the more captivating. The chemistry between Misery and Lowe is electric—Hazelwood creates a dynamic that crackles with tension and undeniable attraction. Lowe is such a complex character: commanding yet fair, and watching his every move around Misery kept me hooked. He’s suspicious of her motives, and rightfully so, but there’s something unspoken between them that makes every interaction feel like a thrilling dance of trust and betrayal.Hazelwood masterfully weaves in twists and secrets, keeping me on my toes as I unravelled Misery’s hidden motivations. The high stakes surrounding the Vampyre-Were alliance made every decision critical, especially as Misery faces not just political, but deeply personal challenges. The plot was fast-paced yet full of depth, and it’s hard not to be drawn in by the tense, forbidden vibe of Were territory. By the end, I was fully invested in Misery and Lowe’s story—and already eagerly awaiting what Hazelwood has next. There were a couple of questionable bits that I didn't think were fully necessary (knotting IYKYK) but I did binge read the book in a day!If you’re craving a paranormal romance that’s heavy on intrigue, high stakes, and complex characters, Bride is the perfect escape. It was just what I needed to get back into reading, and it might just do the same for you!
Rating: 1 stars for the sake of the little sister.Okay, I need to be so for real right now, I was really scared to read this book, but I was ready to give it a chance and be obsessed. Like, morally gray vampire? Arranged marriage? Enemies-to-lovers tension?? It had all the ingredients for a story that should’ve absolutely eaten. But instead… it bit me in the worst way possible, From the very first chapters, I could tell something was off. The vibes? Weird. The pacing? Off. The emotions? Barely there. What could’ve been an intense, romantic, fantasy masterpiece ended up feeling flat, awkward, and kind of painful to get through.“sigh”!! Honestly, I should’ve just stayed scared and never picked this up, I had that gut feeling, and I ignored it. Now look at me, wishing I could get those hours of my life back, Sometimes curiosity doesn’t just kill the cat… it tortures the reader too.But honestly, I’m so grateful for the sweetest girl Salma, who buddy read this disaster with me! We really tried, like, we gave it everything, hoping it would somehow get better… but nope. At least the experience itself was fun, even if the book absolutely wasn’t. Sometimes misery really does love company!ˋ°•*⁀➷ The Characters:The characters honestly drove me insane. Misery? I still don’t even know how to feel about her, mostly confused, slightly irritated. She was supposed to be this complex, mysterious heroine with layers to uncover, but every layer I peeled back just felt… empty. Like, she could’ve been interesting, but instead she’s just wandering around making questionable decisions like it’s her full-time job. Every time she opened her mouth, I was like, girl, what is your plan here?? She’s meant to be cold and guarded, but she ended up feeling detached and emotionless, all walls, no warmth, no spark. I kept waiting for a moment of vulnerability or something to make me root for her, but it never came. And don’t even get me started on Lowe. I wanted to love him so bad, the whole brooding vampire alpha thing? I was ready for it. But he ended up being so bland I almost forgot he was supposed to be the main love interest. He had this mysterious setup that went absolutely nowhere. One second he’s acting all dark and powerful, and the next he’s giving me emotionally constipated teenager energy. Like sir, pick a personality and stick with it!! He’s supposed to be this ancient, dangerous creature, but he has the depth of a puddle and the emotional range of a brick. And don’t even get me started on their relationship dynamic. It was supposed to be enemies-to-lovers “my absolute weakness” but this? This was more like strangers-to-slightly-annoyed-acquaintances. There was zero build-up, no tension that made me want to scream or kick my feet. They just went from side-eyeing each other to sharing dramatic declarations out of nowhere. Like, where was the slow burn?? Where was the emotional payoff??Instead, everything felt rushed and unearned. The “romance” was basically them being forced into a situation, exchanging a few dry lines, and then suddenly boom, they’re “in love.” Sorry, but no. I wanted yearning, vulnerability, messy feelings, not instant affection that made me feel nothing. Their connection didn’t evolve; it just appeared, and by then I was too disconnected to even care.
I enjoyed the book. It was interesting. I love Ali Hazelwood. Personally I got a little bored mid way, but I stuck it out and enjoyed the ending.

But Misery has her own reasons for agreeing—can she get what she wants without losing herself?𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬The book started out really strong, and I genuinely enjoyed the first one-third.With the introduction of the Vampyre-Werewolf world, and the enemies-to-lovers premise... I was so into it. It's a fast paced story with one POV of Misery but there's like these glimpses of Lowe's thoughts at the beginning of each chapter that added an unexpected charm to the romance.I looved the initial tension between them, and the inter-species dynamic made it even more interesting as the story progressed. But soon things became dull and the excitement dipped for me. Some of the reasons were:• Even though they were supposed to be enemies, it never truly felt like enemies-to-lovers— more like strangers in an arranged-marriage situation.• The romance lost intensity and leaned more towards late-night-coffee-talks bonding. The conversations made the relationship feel comforting but their chemistry lacked that spark! • Plus, the smut. I don't know but the "knot" thing.. just felt weird. Only one scene I would consider hot, the rest, knot so much🥴• The characters, tried so much to be badass but didn't leave a strong impression. I felt Misery had no prominent characteristic to her (especially as a Vampire) and Lowe was the typical MMC.There were many times I skimmed through the pages. The side suspense-mystery plot was just 🆗... I found the ending to be a bit rushed and wanted more from the romance. In my view, it had potential and a very solid start, but the execution didn’t quite keep the momentum for me.𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐓𝐋;𝐃𝐑)Overall, it begins with a captivating Vampyre–Werewolf enemies-to-lovers setup and sweet little POVs. But, the story loses its spark as the romance feels slow, the characters lack depth, the smut is🙄. Even with a rushed ending, the first part of the story and the world-building are enjoyable.
Dei 4 estrelas porque o livro me prendeu do início ao fim.
Intresting take on vamps and weres. I enjoyed it quite a but, but I'm a but sad that we only get Misery's pov. I understand that it would give too much away if we also had Lowe's pov as well. I hope we get a sequel because I would love to visit this universe again. maybe it will be Serena 's story.
4 STARS“You’re not a problem, Misery.
It was a pretty good read, I liked the romance for the most part. The mc is a little dumb about noticing the love interest's feelings for her. The sex is steamy but not excessive to where that's the only thing. I would rate it high if the plot twist at the end had a few more bread crumbs sprinkled through out as well, I don't like a decision that the main love intrest made simply for plot convince towards the end. As well as mc's oblivious nature, which was pretty frustrating at times for me.
