It’s a survival families boldly venturing into the uncharted wilderness to make homes and new lives for themselves. The early pioneers of the American West embraced this challenge and learned to survive, even thrive, in difficult, and sometimes extreme, conditions. Settlers brought what precious few things they could fit into their cramped wagons to set up homesteads on the frontier. Once there, they cleared land, planted crops, and built simple log cabins.Their lives were defined by they raised sheep and grew flax for material to make clothes; shot game and raised livestock for the table; harvested and stored their own vegetables and herbs; even carved their own wooden tools, utensils, and furniture. They shaped their lives from the very trees that surrounded them, becoming hardy and self-sufficient. Pioneer life required sacrifice, but the rewards of freedom, independence, and a better life drew many people westward. Frontier Home is a lovely and touching account of the rough tools, homes, and daily life that testifies to the indomitable spirit of those early settlers.
