⌨️3.5 stars🪖I don't know what to say... the book starts from slow to very slow to slow to oh? Then it begins to pick up significantly until it slows down because everything SEEMS fine until it isn't at the ending, where everything escalates and a lot of things happen.🫰The ending. ILLEGAL CLIFFHANGER. And somehow I ate it up. Keep it coming, I guess, because I apparently enjoy keeping myself hooked on curiosity and devastation.👍Writing was great at times but then lacking during others -- pacing was fine though.👌I wouldn't say this book was heavy fantasy at all. Romance was a main part of the plot, for one, but it also felt like contemporary romance, especially towards the start. It felt like the events in the first book could have happened in real life (apart from the magical typewriters).👎The romance felt kind of rushed... Roman was pretty much head over heels from the very beginning of the book, whereas Iris took a while but was still pretty early on in the book, in my opinion. While it was still cute, I wish it was more slow burn (that ending, though, was a burn -- like, on-fire burn).👎Started off really slow... it was exploring families, grief and jobs until we arrived at Avalon Bluff.

Loved it! The real depictions of war + magic elements didn't crash at all

I didn’t read the blurb before starting this, I just trusted a recommendation and dove right in. I was expecting a cozy fantasy, a cute little enemies-to-lovers romance, something fun and lighthearted. And out of all that? The only thing I actually got was the solid enemies-to-lovers part. Because the rest? PURE DEPRESSION. Wars, tragic backstories, heartbreaking deaths, cruel and inevitable twists…I fell in love with the characters, the world, everything. And I just cannot accept the ending of this book. Not after everything that happened. I knew at some point things were gonna go bad, but still… not like this. Not in such a harsh, painful way. From the bottom of my heart, I hope things turn around in the next book. Does it look like they will? Nope. Not at all. But I still hope they do. I want Iris and Roman to end up together so badly, ‘cause I’m completely in love with their relationship. For me, there’s just no way this story can end with them apart — or worse.

3 starsFirst book of 2024 finished!I had really high hopes for Divine Rivals and it was sort of a let down. I absolutely adore the letter interactions between Iris and Roman and also the side characters such as Marisol and Attie. However, the magic and fantasy elements in this book was almost non existent. I thought I would be transported into this magical and fantastical world, BUT WRONG I GOT SCAMMED. I felt like I was reading a historical romance novel. I'll probably finish reading the second book, but next time when I see a book being overly hyped I need to lower my expectations a lot.

I loved the first half of this book, the letters and suspense was awesome! However the rest of the book was just meh. I will not be reading the next book but this was a decent read.Pros: - Roman is the literal sweetest - the rivalry!!!- the world is super fun- the aspect of warring gods Cons- a semi main character says she has a wife and there's a seen where they kiss.- a little too much detail of the wedding night.

Todavía no me creo ese final, no sabría explicar lo que sentí al leer esa carta que Iris dejó sin leer, como todo habría terminado diferente de haberla leído a tiempo."Iris! Iris, it's me, Kitt" I cried with those words

4⭐Where do I begin?.... Somehow, by some means, I loved this book so much that it took me a whole week to finish it.I felt the best and worst feelings, joy and sadness, laughter and tears, it was A very interesting journey into the beautiful world of Rebecca Ross, with her wonderful writing and narration. How much I loved the course of events, the development of the characters, and the interesting conflicts that took place between Iris and Roman. I loved it very much. The last chapters of the book had a huge impact on my chest, my heart ached when I saw what happened between Iris and Roman (my chest still aches) Oh my God, how things can change overnight. What we were hoping to live disappeared with the first light of green smoke that came between them and the first happy morning.I love Roman so much and I love his great perseverance to protect Iris from anything even a whiff of cold air, I love his jokes and comments, I love his descriptions of Iris and his words of love filled with pure longing. I love him.And Iris, my sweet girl with a broad and pure heart, I loved her since the first time I read about her. I love everything about her. I love her love for her mother despite her addiction. I love her love for her brother despite his abandonment. The book broke me and healed me in a way I can't explain but I'm grateful I read it and can't wait to read the second one.

So… i truly don’t know where i should start with this review but oh my lordFirst this book would be definitely a 5 star read but because of the lgbtq part it doesn’t worth the full rating ( i was disgusted the whole time )Now to the rest of the book. The writing, the characters ( except the lesbian ones ) , the plot, the vibes, the depth of the story and the two main characters is freaking FASCINATING!Oh how my heart ached for them so much, i giggled and blushed, i laughed and cried, i was devastated and irritated, i really felt A LOT while reading this book, this is my first time annotating a book this much, this’s how much i was literally invested in it.The ending literally k!lled me i don’t forgive it :( , they deserve a happy ending and i wish they get it in the second book. - this part consider a spoiler, be aware - ᥫ᭡ˊ˗- -HE LITERALLY CRAWLED TO HER, AND HE KEPT CRAWLING TO FIND HER IN HIS LAST MINUTE IN LIFE … i can’t breathe

I think I enjoyed the book more, imagining them to be 24-25 years old rather than 18 and 19. I absolutely adore both the characters in this book, which is an unusual feat for the FMCs in romance-driven books. I also enjoy the premise of letters being their main form of communications a lot

3.5 stars overall. When seeing the aesthetics for this book, I will admit, I expected something a little more...detailed. Though the plot idea was good and the ending was intriguing, the story itself was a little bland. The only reason I continued reading was because I really wanted to read the second book, since it sounded more interesting to me and the fact that it was only 350-something pages long and I'm already behind on my reading goal. I do like the ending, which is what bumped it up from a 3-star to a 3.5-star. I wanted there to be more scenes surrounding the war, seeing more of what happens in it during this first book so I could really get a good grip of what this story is about...but just didn't. There was only a small glimpse and that just wasn't enough...and why the hell did Iris stay with her brother, agreeing to remain there when Roman is out there somewhere? That doesn't really make sense to me since they just got married.

I listened to this on audiobook I wasn't in a big audiobook mood

It was good but then ok, it really didn't live up to the hype the comments posted here with theses 5 star reviews. Don't get me wrong I'm into fantasy, enemy's to lovers and historical fiction, towards the ending it literally fell flat. Not looking for the second book but with the cliffhanger it have you wondering what happened to Roman but overall I don't need it I can make my own imagination on what happened to him.
