honestly this is one of the better books and i liked it alot.

até agora esse foi o livro que a rachel mais soube finalizar a história de maneira concisa, reuniu tudo de importante e concluiu de maneira satisfatória pra mim. uma grande diferença pra common goal e tough guy. eu finalmente descobri o que me incomodava tanto na escrita da rachel. ela simplesmente esburaca a narrativa e desenvolvimento do casal. algo q eu já tinha notado mas eu tinha a impressão que só era evidente no final aqui foi evidente a história inteira. a gente lê e lê e no fim parece q não sabemos nada dos personagens, quais seus medos quais seus sonhos quais seus desejos. a gente conhece tão pouco dos personagens q eu sempre vou atrás de fic pra um complemento. ela coloca o personagem falando ah quando for o jogo da semana q vem eu vejo isso aí na próxima linha já é o jogo da próxima semana. o personagem menciona que pode apresentar o bairro pro protagonista e é simplesmente esquecido, em nenhum momento é citado mais. algo q seria muito valioso pro desenvolvimento pro casal o meu amado mutual pining. pra mim faltou muito isso ao longo da narrativa, o troy dizia vou sentir sua falta e no capítulo seguinte já era ele de volta em casa. tipo, eu quero ver ele sentindo falta do namorado quero ver os personagens em um yearning infinito. mas a rachel deve ver e pensar: ah preguiça ne 😓 e eu nao vou nem falar da cena do primeiro jantar na casa dos drover q foi muito rápido e do harris contando que estava namorando o troy q simplesmente NAO teve e eu queria muito ver. parece q a mulher morre se não colocar uma cena mais profunda. além dos meus incômodos com a escrita e narrativa esburacada oq mais me incomodou de fato foi os personagens se referindo ao abusador como "vilão","monstro","maligno" tudo isso pra não chamar um abusador doq ele é? sem condições. de resto eu amei troy e harris. o final foi um dos melhores finais q a rachel já escreveu ouso dizer q quase tão melhor quanto game changer. o troy é um amor, nunca pensei q iria amar tanto ele logo eu q odiei com todas as forças em tough guy. o jeito como ele quer ser bom pro harris e deixa claro q não quer engana-lo até conseguir se assumir foi tão delicado, a trajetória dele até a decisão de fazer tudo por ele e pro harris pq o harris merecia isso é lindo. e o harris outro fofo ele é o próprio raio de sol e a família dele são uns amores, eles viraram meus queridinhos.

Role Model, the fifth book in the Game Changers series tells the story of Troy Barrett after he’s pushed out of his team for standing up against Dallas Kane (Gods do I hate this fictional character so much) as he joins Ottawa Centaurs. This is a grumpy x sunshine romance and I loved it, because Troy deserves to be happy and because the chemistry between him and the sweet sunshine that is the social media manager, Harris is off the charts and adorable. They have become my third favourite couple in the series, as Reid gives them relatable elements that make them ‘human’. Troy’s journey from being a rather abrasive individual to striving for redemption demonstrates significant character growth, while Harris's upbeat demeanour is remarkable considering the challenges he has faced due to illness. Personally, I found myself rooting for Troy primarily because of the ‘why’ he found himself in the unknown. No longer with a team he had felt as though he belonged; because he was the only one who believed victims of SA; and as I’m one? I knew where the women were coming from and how easy it can be to be dismissed for the truth… I had wondered how this could be Troy’s story after initially meeting this man who’d been homophobic and a stereotypical example of toxic masculinity. Reid delivers the story with a wonderful uno reverse and gives us a love story not only between Troy and Harris, but also for Troy to love and forgive himself. Role Model really does shine a light on the NHL, both fictional and real with the level of toxic masculinity and whilst not broadcasted, the fact that players would rather pretend to be one thing - in this case an abusive homophobic ‘alpha’ rather than be openly gay. With the glimpses into how the top-level management act within the organisation; and how they are dismissive against allegations of abuse in fiction; it’s impossible not to wonder how accurate the portrayal is. Once again, I like how we get to see some familiar faces from the previous books - and not just on the rink as we get to see Kyle happily running the Kingfisher and Fabian performing on part of his tour. I think it helps ensure that you feel like you’re immersed fully in the world of Game Changers, and that there is a community/family between the players and their friends. I think Role Model might be one of my favourite reads in the series because of the other storylines that take place which I’ve given insight into; don’t get me wrong I loved seeing Troy and Harris get their HEA but it was the friendships, the support network and the refusal to roll over and behave that caught me. Plus, there’s an adorable dog added to the mix, and he steals so many scenes with Ilya - because seeing the softy Russian is always good.Love these books, they’re enjoyable and engaging whilst also providing a little hope that things may change in these sports so fiction will reflect life more. I look forward to seeing these two appear in books six and seven to see if they grow their family with more puppies and laughter.
