So good made me cry so much, bought it as soon as it came out
the ending was so saddd
Honestly, this just didn’t work for me. I’ve already read about the reaping, the Capitol spectacle, and tributes being paraded and thrown into the arena to die. It all felt repetitive. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes already covered this setup, so going through the same motions again, just with a different character, felt unnecessary. I’m not sure if that makes sense, but it felt like déjà vu in the least exciting way.Personally, I think the book would’ve been far more interesting if it had focused on Haymitch’s life after the Games. How he dealt with the trauma, the Capitol's control, and the aftermath of surviving something so brutal. That’s the story I really wanted to read.As for the characters, I understand what Lenore Dove was meant to represent. Her rebellious spirit, her challenge to the Capitol's narrative, but honestly, she was written so flat and boring. A cup has more personality. I struggled to connect with anyone emotionally, except Maysilee, who stood out as the most compelling character in the whole story.I gave The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes 2.75 stars, and now Sunrise on the Reaping is sitting at a 2. I'm really hoping the original trilogy delivers something stronger. And Coriolanus Snow, I sincerely hope you burn in hell.
Um I'm actually traumatized, seeing all the deaths of the tributes was heartbreaking, Maysile was probs my fav charecrer and don't even get me started on the aftermath of the hunger games. The epilouge made me sob as well and I'm so so scared for this movie now I'm gonna bawl my eyes out holy shit
Great book, but I see why Haymitch ended up being a drunk.
"I love you like all fire" 5⭐❤️Wow this was exactly what I hoped it would be.Very intense throughout the whole book, had to shed several tears and off course fell in love again with all the characters.
"We’ll paint our own posters. And I know just where we can get the paint."Oh, my heart. I mean sure, we kinda glean from the original trilogy that Haymitch's Games were awful, traumatic and had dire consequences but actually reading it makes my heart hurt.Young Haymitch is nothing like I would've imagined from reading the og books. But you can see why he turned out the way he did and it's heart-wrenching. The complete contrast between pre-Games and post-Games Haymitch is startling but completely expected. I really liked the epilogue too.
