He was a black man from Tennessee and they were three white teenagers from Iowa who killed him and took the only thing he ever treasured--his great grandfather's slave tag. His family never heard from him again. The year was 1940. Sixty years later a college grad student stumbles upon the unreported crime and decides to investigate it, quickly becoming immersed in its complexity.
