Описание

* Beautifully illustrated with atmospheric paintings by renowned artists, Tom Jones is rightly regarded as Fielding's greatest work, and one of the first and most influential of English novels. Attacked at the time as `A motley history of bastardism, fornication, and adultery', it overflows with a marvelous assortment of prudes, whores, libertines, bumpkins, misanthropes, hypocrites, scoundrels, virgins, and all too fallible humanitarians.
* Just as accessible and enjoyable for today's readers as it would have been when first published over two centuries ago, the novel is one of the great works of English literature and continues to be widely read throughout the world.
* This meticulous digital edition from Heritage Illustrated Publishing is a faithful reproduction of the original text and is enhanced with images of classic works of art carefully selected by our team of professional editors.

This book was written about 270 years ago, yet it is still has relevant today as it was then. I guess that is the definition of a classic. It's amazing though that a book written so long ago could still be relevant. It is one of the funniest books I have read, I would say that I am not one who often laughs out loud after the books I read. This book had me laughing so much though. I loved Fielding's little interruptions in his own story. I loved how he berated his critics. I loved his observations, which, as I've said could still be very much true today. It is funny that after nearly 300 years, people have changed very little. I first heard of this book when I watched the 1997 mini series on BBC with Max Beasley. That is one very favourite TV series to date. It stays relatively close to the book. The ending is a bit different. A bit more satisfactory to a modern audience perhaps.
