Описание

Forcibly-retired Detective Inspector Timmy Dyer (the anti-hero of 'Dying In Style') is at a loose end. Edith Gonne, his long-suffering wife, is still trying to get him back to the Catholic church and away from sexual lapses of the gay variety. She is powerless over Timmy's character faults - just as he is. And she's not particularly in charge of her own. She decides to venture forth on a journey to Inisfian, an island off County Mayo in the west of Ireland, to add juice to her dying spiritual batteries, while Timmy Dyer stays in London to indulge himself with trips to 'The Elephant's Graveyard' - a gay pub for the old and halt. But what Edith discovers on Inisfian will bring her husband out to join her in trying to work out why priests keep dying and disappearing from the reformatory for abusive clerics on the island. They will confront many sad facts about Catholicism in Ireland and the world, while realising - like every character in the book - that they too have a mass of character defects that might also make them seem too lost to be found. This is a novel about the conflicts within Catholicism, and within us all, regarding revenge and forgiveness, acceptance and judgement, the ability to change, and find some kind of redemption. It is also about what Canon Dowd is up to at St Jude's with those abusing priests. What's going on?
