Om författaren
Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer, is best known for leading the first expedition to circumnavigate the globe. Born in 1480 in Sabrosa, Portugal, he developed a passion for exploration and navigation from a young age. In pursuit of glory and wealth, Magellan sought a westward route to the Spice Islands, which led him to secure sponsorship from Spain. His expedition set sail in 1519, embarking on a journey that would change the course of history.
Magellan faced numerous challenges during his voyage, including treacherous waters, mutinies, and conflicts with indigenous populations. His determination and navigational skills ultimately led to the discovery of the Strait of Magellan, a crucial passage between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Although Magellan himself did not complete the journey, as he was killed in the Philippines in 1521, his expedition succeeded in proving that the Earth could be circumnavigated, forever altering the world’s understanding of geography and the interconnectedness of its oceans.
