אך לעולם אין לנדוד בלי יעד, והיעד הנוכחי של החבורה הוא מוזיאון הציוויליזציה, שלפי השמועות הוקם באחד מנמלי התעופה הנטושים, בטרקלין הנוסעים המתמידים של דלתא איירליינס. שמה של הסימפוניה הנודדת מתנוסס על כל אחד משלושת הקרוואנים, משני צדיו, אבל על הקרוואן שבראש חקוקה שורה נוספת, הלקוחה מסדרת הטלוויזיה "מסע בין כוכבים", שאותה קיעקעה קירסטין על זרועה בגיל חמש-עשרה: כי הישרדות לא תספיק.
״תחנה אחת-עשרה״ הוא ספרה הרביעי של הסופרת הקנדית אמילי סנט ג׳ון מנדל שראה אור ב-2014. באופן נדיר, זכה הספר לשבחים גורפים הן מצד קהל קוראי ספרות הז׳אנר והן מצד קוראי הספרות היפה. הספר זכה בפרס ארת׳ור ס׳ קלארק, בפרס טורונטו ובפרס "מורנינג ניוז", היה בין המועמדים הסופיים לפרס הספר הלאומי ולפרס פן/פוקנר, כיכב ברשימות רבי המכר של ניו יורק טיימס, ונכלל ברשימות הספרים הטובים של השנה של טיים מגזין, וושינגטון פוסט, קירקוס, שיקגו טריביון, האפינגטון פוסט, סן פרנסיסקו כרוניקל, גרדיאן, ועיתונים וכתבי עת רבים אחרים.

I honestly don't know how to feel about this book. I only gave it 2.5 stars because I almost DNF it. I really am over the multiple time line with different POVs being done in books and TV shows that seem to be prevelant currently - yes I know this book was published in 2014. Also reading this post Covid pandemic, I am not really sure how to feel about everything. The book tries very hard to be philosophical and wax poetic about the human existence and experience. I felt it feel flat. Most of the characters fell flat to me, I did not really care about what happened to any of them besides Clark.
Not for me. There were too many people brought up, and very few were given time to shine. The premise of the book was neat, with a focus on the small ways people are connected, even across major events. But there were too many side stories and plots to really let it shine. Also, I hated most of the main characters and couldn't much care for them, in the past of the future.
This was an unexpectedly excellent read. It was a quirky take on a plotline that sometimes feels like it's been done to death. I love the way the book was put together, with lots of different stories in both the present and flashbacks. There was an emphasis on the end of the world *now*, and how people would have to learn to cope without the mass amounts of technology that we use every day without thought, and I really appreciated those bits. Not because I think we're all glued to our phones and doomed as a society, because I don't. But it's one of very few stories that plays with what the end of cell phones and the internet would actually look and feel like. Overall it was just a refreshingly clever take on the apocalypse and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
