Beskrivning

Who am I?
I've forgotten the answer to that question long ago. Ever since I ran from that house, so desperate to escape, I left with only the clothes on my back and socks on my feet. After that day, I've only ever walked in stolen shoes.
Could I be a girl who is searching for the meaning of life in faceless men? They were all so forgettable. Until he came along. He took me under a waterfall and made me forget my name, and in return, I took his instead.
Enzo Vitale.
An enigmatic man that will only ever love the deep sea. Or rather the predators that inhabit it. Turns out, he's not so different than the monsters he feeds. He lured me onto his boat like a fish in the ocean, seeking vengeance for my crime. Had I realized his intentions, and that a massive storm would leave us shipwrecked, I would've ran.
Now, I'm a girl who's seeking refuge in a decrepit lighthouse with a man who loathes me almost as much as he craves me. He wants to hurt me, but the old caretaker of the abandoned island may have intentions far more sinister.
It's no longer a question of who I am, but rather, will I survive?

A good light read to clear the head after numerous darker books! I enjoyed it and I really loved the “creepy” scenes and tension. I think this is what I love about H.D. Carlton’s books the most, she always manages to make it feel like you’re reading some horror book when it’s not 😅

It wasn't horrible, but I really wish there wasn't so much spice at times. Like that has to be at the appropriate times. There's so much going on with the plot, and I'm on the edge of my seat, and all of a sudden, they start angry f**king. Also, I read some of her other books and just like skipped over it as a one-time thing, but I guess it's not. This author has a thing of bringing up God whenever the main characters are getting down, if u know what I mean. And it's so repetitive. Why do u have to bring god into it every time. all that said, this is a dark romance book, and I knew that when going into it, so the rest I was like ready for. Like they are ENEMIES ENEMIES, and this book is not for the faint of heart.

Does it hurt? These 3 words perfectly sum up the journey through this book in many ways but before we get into that let's start by saying I was after a new exciting thriller to read and one of my trusted Thriller reading friends suggested this one.Immediately I was suspicious at the name feeling like I'm being setup again with another smut book but she assured me it's more violent than anything.Let's just say, I was not prepared. The book starts with a woman named Sawyer, she's basically a fugitive on the run and rips people off by stealing their identity. She meets some Italian stallion called Enzo. They have sex behind a waterfall and immediately I'm like "That damn [redacted] set me up...".It's where the book goes from here where it gets interesting and honestly, I'm all for it. I purposely don't read the synopsis for a book before I read it as I love to go in blind.I was not prepared...The main characters develop their love/hate(okay hate/hate) relationship over the course of the book with some questionable sexcapades here and there.I enjoyed the dynamic of the slow reveal of why people are the way that they are, whether good or bad. There's a real element of feeling trapped and feeling like there's no way out.The back and forth between Sawyer and Enzo is something I thoroughly enjoyed, especially reading along with the audiobook playing. Hearing Enzo speak Italian made me wish I knew more than just a few swear words and offensive sayings like Pezzo Di Merda. The mystery within the book is what keeps you reading, with weird things happening throughout where you're lead to believe it's paranormal. When things finally get revealed, honestly I say yet again...I was not prepared.I believe at that point I messaged my friend saying how f***ed the book was but that I was loving it.Overall I love how easy the book was to follow, it didn't get too complex and there weren't 30 different characters whose names I had to remember which helped.Oh. The boat scene....
