The body as subject matter is as old as art itself. It has always been the most intimate and immediate object of study. Contemporary approaches to the body bear the mark of an obsessive, often dissecting view -- a reflection, perhaps, of the fragmentation of our view of the world. The works in this collection, published in conjunction with an exhibition, illustrate widely differing interpretations and are accompanied by commentary from the artists.
