Ultimately, this masterpiece invites its readers and audience members to consider whether one's true self can shine through the masks society encourages them to wear. The play balances comedy with a poignant critique of life’s essential truths, leaving a lasting impression of whimsical wisdom.
Recensioner
Critic William Archer wrote after the first performance of this play, "What can a poor critic do with a play which raises no principle, whether of art or morals, creates its own canons and conventions, and is nothing but an absolutely wilful expression if an irrepressibly witty personality?" I think he captured this play pretty well. The introduction to Oscar Wilde and who he was at the beginning of this book was really interesting too.
