But before that he joined the Merchant Navy at the tender age of 14, studied to be a doctor, learned to fly, built a yacht to race from Cape Town to Rio, then started chartering it throughout the Caribbean. After an accident in which he suffered second degree burns he convalesced in Barbados and it was there that he bought a dilapidated house, the Governer's Mansion built originally in 1629, which became Bagatelle, the restaurant which entertained the rich and famous. There hasn't been a dull moment since.
