Beskrivning

In a vibrant neighborhood, a young girl navigates the complexities of her identity and the struggles of growing up in a world that often misunderstands her. With a pen in hand, she finds solace in poetry, using it as a powerful tool to express her innermost thoughts and feelings. Through her verses, she explores themes of family, culture, and self-acceptance, revealing the raw emotions that come with being a teenager.

As she grapples with the expectations placed upon her by society and her own aspirations, she discovers the strength found in her voice. The journey is not just about finding her place in the world, but also about the deep connections she forms with her family and friends. Each poem she writes serves as both a cathartic release and a testimony to her resilience.

Amidst the chaos of adolescence, she learns the importance of authenticity and the power of self-advocacy. By the end of her story, readers are left inspired by her courage to unapologetically embrace her true self and the art that brings her joy.

It definitely wasn't my favourite. Maybe my expectations were too high because of all of other reviews. The style used wasn't something I'd want to try again. I understand that it was supposed to resemble spoken poetry but it didn't work for me. Listening to the audiobook - it was very tiring. Again, maybe the spoken poetry isn't my cup of tea. As to the plot, it was very uncomfortable for me to follow the mother-daughter relationship. I am fortunate enough to not relate and mother's toxicity was too much. The story wasn't very compelling and I haven't found myself invested in what happens next at any point. Maybe except for twin's parts. Unfortunately, from the very start I had a feeling I'm listening to a story written by a 13-year-old. That refers especially to messages. I understand it was supposed to be colloquial but I prefer using different language in written stories. All in all, I get why a lot of people like this book. It's unique. It's filled with emotions. I see potential but execution leaves a lot to be desired.

I enjoyed it. It was a good read. I still don't really like poetry tho.
