Dans la ville d'Angel City, l'alchimie est contrôlée par deux syndicats rivaux : Grand Central et Lumines. Mais lorsque deux amis d'enfance interviennent dans ce fragile équilibre, celui-ci ne tient plus qu'à un fil. Fille d'une mère célibataire et démunie, Sam est prête à tout pour se frayer un chemin dans les rangs de Grand Central. Arraché à sa famille lorsqu'il était enfant pour devenir un apprenti Lumines, Ari est l'une des étoiles montantes les plus brillantes de son syndicat. Autrefois, ils auraient pu s'aimer. Mais alors que les deux alchimistes s'affrontent de part et d'autre d'un conflit qui ne cesse de s'intensifier, l'ambition devient pouvoir, la loyauté devient mensonge, et aucune transformation n'est assez parfaite pour qu'ils puissent tous deux survivre à la guerre qui s'annonce.

⋆. 𐙚 ˚four / five stars ✰alchemy cannot create nor destroy love. alchemy cannot force love to bend to its will. love, for better or worse, is its own mysterious force.i won’t lie guys, i thought this was going to be an easy five star read for me & maybe that was putting too much pressure on the story.the best way to describe my time is – i liked the first third, struggled through the middle third, then LOVED the last third. i feel like the pacing was a bit weird and quite honestly i didn’t really get attached to any of our characters until closer to the end. i wasn’t really thinking of continuing this series (when the next one comes out) until i got to the last 50ish pages and now i need ANSWERS!!!i also just don’t think alchemy is a magic system that i love, this i think was my first story with it as the primary fantasy element and it just ... was kinda boring. in theory it’s so fascinating and i do love how we work in actual chemistry, it makes it seem like alchemy could be something that really exists, but for the same reasons i found it to be, again, boring. the more you know.𐙚⋆.˚pre-readthis is advertised as ‘perfect for fans of ve schwab’ so you know i had to pick it up the second i saw it 🙂↕️
I was hooked to this book. I may not understand a lot about attraction or desire, but the emotions, the plot, and the characters were all so amazing.The side characters didn't just feel like props for the plot or main characters. The plot itself was amazing and twisty. Raw. I loved characters that I hated, I felt empathy for them and I understood the world in all of its grit. I could not put this down, definitely worth a sleepless night.
