The world outside is chaotic, with societal collapse intertwining with the consequences of time travel. Shannon navigates through a series of haunting future scenarios, each as bleak and despairing as the last. The very essence of existence begins to unravel as she grapples with the potential extinction of humanity. This race against time not only tests her resolve but also challenges her perceptions of reality.
As she delves deeper into the mysteries surrounding her colleague's death, Shannon encounters a variety of characters, each providing fragmented insights into the hidden truths of her world. The lines between friend and foe blur as she becomes increasingly aware of the forces at play, both seen and unseen.
Amidst the tension and uncertainty, themes of fate, loss, and redemption emerge, offering a poignant exploration of what it means to be human in a fractured reality. Shannon’s relentless pursuit for answers leads her to profound revelations, showing that sometimes, the most gripping mysteries lie not just in the external world but within oneself.

The blend of detective mystery and sci-fi is executed well and helps keep the pace. The time-travel and multiple-version elements are mind-bending—complex, but utterly fascinating. I only truly grasped the full scope after reading an explanation by https://www.thisisbarry.com/book/the-gone-world-ending-explained-tom-sweterlitsch-book/ which made me appreciate the concept even more. It’s the kind of story that makes you want to immediately go back and read it again. The descriptions and atmosphere surrounding the Vardogger tree were haunting, gruesome, and unforgettable.
Super confusing most of the time, but everything made sense at the end. It was really good despite Sci-fi not being my favorite genre.
