Saint Augustine, also known as Augustine of Hippo, was a prominent early Christian theologian and philosopher whose writings influenced the development of Western Christianity and philosophy. Born in Thagaste, in present-day Algeria, he spent much of his early life in a state of moral ambiguity before experiencing a profound spiritual transformation in his thirties. His most famous works include "Confessions," an autobiographical account of his spiritual journey, and "The City of God," which addresses the relationship between Christianity and secular society.
