描述

In a gripping tale of deception and intrigue, a gathering of eclectic personalities comes together for what seems like an innocent game of bridge. Among them are characters with secrets lurking beneath their polished exteriors. As the evening progresses, the stakes rise dramatically, leading to a shocking murder that shatters the façade of this seemingly mundane gathering.

The brilliant detective Hercule Poirot is drawn into the fray, tasked with unraveling a complex web of lies and motives. With every card played, new revelations come to light, prompting Poirot to scrutinize the players not just for their strategies at the table but for the deeper truths they conceal. Each character’s backstory adds layers of complexity to the investigation, making it clear that everyone has something to hide.

As the tension mounts, the pursuit of justice takes unexpected turns, blending wit and suspense in a classic Christie manner. The reader is left on the edge of their seat, trying to outsmart Poirot before the final reveal unearths the true nature of each character’s involvement in the deadly game.

3/5 ★Started : 14.08.2025Finished : 16.08.2025Okay first of all, I've read it in French and finished it in only two days. From these informations, you can think " oh wow you really liked it ! Then why the low rate ? "Well because I didn't enjoyed it THAT much actually. I've read it in French and forced myself to finish it because my colleague from work landed me this and said that I would ABSOLUTELY love it (well meh—)Don't get me wrong, the writing was good and the plot great, I loved each characters a lot and the plot won't have been that predictable if I wasn't someone who overthink. The reason I rated this book a three stars is because FOR ME it was very much predictable. For me, I had three theories, it was either the doctor, or the young girl or he never actually died. Turns out I was right about the doctor !!I was waiting for a big plot twist because thats what my colleague told me when she recommended it to me.. well she was wrong. But again, I think it was predictable for me because I'm an overthinker (unfortunately for me..) its IMPOSSIBLE for me to NOT think at all. Even when I'm reading a book (especially if its a thriller or a fantasy) I will always try to think about what will happen next, what type of plot twist I will get and so on...So yeah because of that, its a 3 stars for me. But again, the plot is GREAT, the characters are all very enjoyable and it would have easily be a 5 stars if only it wasn't that predictable for me..

This one left me torn. I gave it 3 stars, though I debated giving it just 2. The premise was promising—four suspects, one of them a killer, and four sleuths to analyze it all. But it took me a while to get engaged, and the ending didn’t sit right with me.<spoiler>The last 100 pages built a case around Anne Meredith... only for the final 10 pages to say, “Surprise! It was Dr. Roberts all along!” Poirot explains it all (of course), and the doctor confesses, but it felt too convenient. Like a sudden deus ex machina with no real evidence to back it.</spoiler>That said, Poirot and Miss Oliver were the highlights—Poirot is always a treat. Their charm and sharpness kept me going. And that final line? I admit, it made me smile. Also, I found the side plot between Anne, Rhoda, and Major Despard way more interesting than the main mystery. Not my favorite Christie, but not a total loss either.
