Fantastic toe tester for darker romance dabbling. The banter was great and the plot was intriguing.

I thought it was a little to long

⤿ Reading period: June 25 - June 28, 2025⤿ Rating: ★★★★☆.25➸ Alyssa:➵‘I didn’t want him morally grey. I wanted someone with a soul as black as night. Someone who would burn the world down for me and not lose a single minute of sleep over it.’Aly, while not entirely unlikable, failed to resonate with me on a deeper level. Unlike other female protagonists who evoke admiration or empathy, she remained somewhat distant, lacking the complexity that would have made her character more engaging. I appreciated the chemistry she shared with Josh, particularly their playful banter, which added a spark to the narrative. However, her motivations, particularly her desire for Josh primarily for physical intimacy, left me feeling disenchanted. Her dialogue often echoed the trends of Gen Z, which, rather than charming me, elicited a sense of irritation. In contrast to Josh, whose character was richly developed and relatable, Aly felt one-dimensional. I found myself wishing for a more nuanced portrayal of her character, one that would allow readers to connect with her past and emotions as profoundly as we did with Josh.➸ Josh:➵“Too wordy. I prefer the couple who slays together, stays together.”From the very outset, all of Josh’s apparent red flags appeared to me as vibrant green signals. It’s simply impossible for me to harbor any animosity towards a six-foot sociopath who, in a rather unconventional display of affection, breaks into her home to restock her fridge and then sneaks into her car to ensure she gets home safely after a tough day at work. Absolutely not. The moment he installed a camera in her room—only to switch it off when she sought privacy—I realized that if he ever approached me, I would undoubtedly be charmed. He possesses an endearing quality and a delightful sense of humor that is utterly disarming! Has anyone informed him that he’s meant to be intimidating? His character arc is so masterfully crafted that I genuinely would have abandoned this narrative if it weren’t for his presence. He is the glue that holds this story together, a true standout in a sea of characters.➵“He made me feel alive. He’d dragged me out of the gray world I’d been living in and taught me how to see colors again. In a sea of men who barely put in any effort, this man stood out for going above and beyond. He was the definition of “If he wanted to, he would.” Because he’d done for me what no one else ever had: he not only met but exceeded my needs, both physically and emotionally. He kept me on my toes, never knowing what he would do next. And he did it all while making me blush and laugh, often at the same time.”The latter portion of this book presented a rather unexpected shift in tone, introducing a mafia subplot that seemed somewhat disconnected from the narrative established in the first half. While the transition was jarring, it nonetheless provided an enjoyable reading experience, almost as if two distinct stories had been artfully woven together. Interestingly, despite being categorized as a dark romance, the overall atmosphere remained surprisingly light-hearted and infused with humor. For those who appreciate the allure of dark romance but prefer a narrative that doesn’t delve too deeply into heavy drama or angst, this book offers a delightful blend of romantic tension and comedic elements, making it an appealing choice for readers seeking a more relaxed yet engaging experience.────୨ৎ────⤷ Thank you for reaching to this point here and I’m really glad and thankful for you, love you ⟡.

I don't know... It just wasn't fully for me. I liked Caught up way more. But I am a mood reader, I was feeling mafia romances so... Maybe I'll reread Light's out in a few months and see if it changes my opinion.

LET ME EXPLAIN…I loved both characters in this book. I thought it was very well written. It was hilarious. In theory this book should have been at least 4 stars. However I’ve learned from this book that dark romance isn’t for me
