描述
Three short stories about the madness in modern life.
The Nail:
He just wanted to hang a poster on the office wall. He didn’t even want the bloody poster, it was a stupid motivational print handed over at the end of an excruciatingly boring business meeting. All he needs is a nail, something to hammer it in with, and he can get on with some more important work. Like sloping off outside for a smoke. But things are never easy. He’s not allowed to put nails in walls, that’s something only the Maintenance Department can do. But then some walls contain electrical conduits, so he also needs a Health and Safety Assessment. And you can’t get either of those things without first logging calls to the Service Desk. What should take a matter of seconds suddenly escalates into a very complicated series of problems.
The Pound:
Ever had a really bad day? I bet it’s not as bad as the one I’ve just had. It all started so well – I woke up early and happy, two things usually beyond my control. There were a few things I needed to get done. First I needed to go into town, get a bit of shopping and buy a new tie. Later, I had a job interview for a job I really needed, if only to stop the girlfriend nagging me about having to pay my rent and bills all the time. Finally, I had to take the girlfriend out for our anniversary dinner. Normally, I try to avoid having so much to do in one day, but that’s just how it worked out. How could I have known that by the end of the day I’d have lost everything? My girlfriend, a new job, even my home. And all for the sake of a bloody pound!
The Scar:
I noticed you staring at my neck. You’ve clearly noticed the thick red scar that runs right across my throat. Do you really want to know how it happened? Do you really want to hear about how my throat was slashed open? ‘The Scar’ explains how I came to be like this. It’s a story about a depressed friend, a mental institution and a thin slip of a girl with wild eyes… and a steak knife. A true story.
Plus bonus story 'Nipperplep de Plidene'.
