It seems somehow old school without being problematic. I love a good language barrier trope, which also has the bonus of having a disability representation. The FMC is deaf, and, due to clever scheming, pretending to be daft to protect herself from being married to a wholly unsuitable man. Boy was this book emotional. I cried no less than 4 times reading it. I'm pretty tenderhearted though so...yeah. The FMC struggles so hard to be accepted by a rival clan. But they are determined to make her life hell no matter how sweet she is, nor that she is now the Lady of the castle and married to their laird. I don't want to say too much because this story deserves to be read to best experience it. I'm 100% going to read the rest of the series and check out Maya Banks' entire catalog.
