Geometrical facts and conceptions are easier. To a child than those of Arithmetic, but arithmetical reasoning is easier than geometrical. The true scientific order in a mathematical education would therefore be, to begin with the facts of Geometry, then take both the facts and rea soning of Arithmetic, and afterwards return to Geometry, not to its facts only, but to its proofs.
