In 1930s Texas, the oil industry is booming and small-time wildcatter Bill Dodd has secretly acquired the oil lease to the property adjoining H.L. Hunt's latest Gusher. Dodd is shot dead and Texas Ranger Lee Garrett is sent to investigate.
