Lifeshades

Olivier doesn't fit in anywhere. Neither human nor vampire, he's fled a past that he can't forget, and a heritage that he cannot abide. His only friend, Carmen, loves being a vampire; forever young, forever beautiful. But when a vestige of humanity makes her break an arcane law, life eternal becomes borrowed time. Desperate to protect her, Olivier must leave his sanctuary and expose himself to the machinations of a council of ancients, who want him broken; and his father, who wants him destroyed.
