描述

The U.S. Army has been experimenting with ways to increase realism in training, a pill to make a new soldier’s first combat training experience seem more A ‘scared shitless’ pill. The approach shows real promise, but the lead scientist on the project, Dr. Dave Holloway, becomes disillusioned and quits the Army taking the knowledge with him.
When Dr. Holloway’s good friend and golf buddy Jeff Lee starts having bad dreams about the Civil War, the solution seems obvious—take Jeff along for a Civil War reenactment, put him in a Union uniform and give him a dose of the Army-developed drugs. When Jeff sees what realistic combat is like, Dr. Holloway suggests, the dreams won’t seem so bad.
The other two members of their golf group, Marty Hutto and Major Jim Morris, an active duty Special Operations soldier, agree to go along. All dressed up in their authentic Union reenactor uniforms, they join a Living History event and prepare for a reenactment battle—as Marty says, this is bound to be ‘super hard core.’
Hare Core it is, and more. By all appearances the four reenactors find themselves thrust into a volunteer infantry unit in 1862. They debate when to take their antidotes and return to their modern lives, but little by little they are pulled ahead—bonding with the men in the unit and the purposes for which they fight—all the way to Antietam Creek.
