Lauren Tom survived the Troubles that killed her father, survived her mother's disappearance ten years ago and now, at 23, she survives on her own in a cabin in the Yukon wilderness. What she may not survive is learning that her mother belonged to a different species and that she herself may soon be insane, if those who suddenly want to kill her don't get to her first.
