Waiting

There was the Hollywood mega-star and the man and an address on a torn piece of an envelope.

The mystery was interred in a small house that hovered on a hillside beside the ocean. Rumors had circulated of a dark lady for years—had I unknowingly unearthed the woman and a possible affair? Ian’s life was obviously not what it seemed; I had only to immerse myself in their world, piecing together their artifacts, their pictures, and their journals to find—what?

I had been asked to write the definitive biography of Ian Summers, a director and actor in film. According to the island’s inhabitants, Ian had escaped his Hollywood world and a loveless marriage to live with a young writer on the island until her death. Had she become his whole world?

And, the only question to answer after my search would be: Did I share Ian’s whole story with the world?
