This was the book equivalent of a Fugitive-style action movie…. and for me, personally, apparently that just works better on screen. There was plenty of adrenaline-fueled action for our MMC, but nothing really happened at the same time. It was really just one big, repetitive, cat and mouse chase scene. I found their jobs really interesting so the beginning started strong, but the rest kinda dragged on and was mostly predictable. I knew who the culprit was pretty immediately. Overall, it was meh.

Granted I didn’t love ‘The It Girl’, I can’t even say I liked ‘The It Girl’, hence my 2.5 star rating, but my God, this book was so much worse than ‘The It Girl’.Although it has a good premise, this book itself isn't exciting, suspenseful, thrilling or even particularly interesting. While this is essentially a fugitive thriller, not much happens plot-wise, and I didn't necessarily feel the rush and urgency of our protagonist Jack's escape from the police. As a reader, constantly reading about Jack's injuries, her lack of food and Gabe's voice in her head just became repetitive and frankly exhausting, especially her inner monologues about Gabe. The fact that Jack, as a character, isn't that interesting didn't help either, as she has little personality beyond her job and her relationship with Gabe.As for the plot twists, if you can call them that, they weren't shocking at all, not helped by the small cast and the obvious clues, and the ending was very meh and unsatisfying.As a whole, this book commits the worst crime a mystery/thriller can commit: being bland and uninteresting.Clearly, I haven't enjoyed Ruth Ware's recently published books. I might need to read her older published books instead.
