My local library did a “blind date with a book” through February, where the books were wrapped with a quote and genre written on the wrapping. This is not a book I would typically choose for myself but I do love Green mythology so was excited to read it. It that’s your thing, it’s a pretty interesting read!
I don't really understand anything. The thing resonated to me a lot is how powerful people abuse their power
I really wanted to say that I loved this book but halfway through, I found it a drag to finish. It seemed repetitive, bitty and a chore.
Honestly I was bound to like this at least a little because I have been sold on Greek Mythology since I was like 9 years old. Also...as a Telemachus girlie, this was both weird and really good. This hit? And I am the first confused about it.
I have to say im pretty fucking impressed with how this is madeline miller's second book and she already has my heart you guys. While this wasn't as emotional as her debut novel(for me at least) it was really engaging. I love her writing but if you don't like slow books it probably won't work for you.Enjoyment wise this book is a 5 stars read but comapred to her first book i would give it 4 stars. So my actual rating for this book is 4.5/5 which is a very weird thing to say???i hope you guys will pick this book up it's really good.
I’m going to be honest, I thought that I was going to rate this book a lot higher. This book is about a god Circe, who appears in The Odyssey. And we see the whole life of Circe since she is born and is continually neglected by everyone, especially by the masculine figures in her life. Is a story very frustrating but in some way very close to reality, so many women have to pass in this misogynistic environment. I like to learn all the mythological stories included in this book like you didn't realize that was a myth. The weakest point of this book is the first half of the book. I was so angry with Circe because she was so dumb and the writing of this half I didn't like at all. But overall was a good book but I had higher expectations.
