Too boring

September 6th 2026

No he leído La Odisea, todavía, pero vi Epic: The Musical y quedé encantada con Odiseo.

Entonces, muchacha, crea otro."

My local library did a “blind date with a book” through February, where the books were wrapped with a quote and genre written on the wrapping. This is not a book I would typically choose for myself but I do love Green mythology so was excited to read it. It that’s your thing, it’s a pretty interesting read!

I don't really understand anything. The thing resonated to me a lot is how powerful people abuse their power

I really wanted to say that I loved this book but halfway through, I found it a drag to finish. It seemed repetitive, bitty and a chore.

I don’t even know where to start.I was excited for this book. Genuinely. I thought I was getting a powerful tale about a badass woman defying the gods, throwing curses, shaping fate with witchcraft. What I got? A woman who spends centuries falling for men, moping on an island, and repeating the same things over and over again. The blurb lied. There’s barely any witchcraft. Barely any family drama. Barely any defiance. Just Circe saying the same five sad things on repeat while occasionally lusting over men who visit her island. Seriously—how is this “feminist”? How is this empowering? And let’s not skip over the weirdest part: she ends up with her son’s half-brother?? Like. What. The. Hell. She could’ve been legendary. She could’ve torn down Olympus. Instead, she blackmails her dad at the very end of the book like, “now I’m done”—girl you could’ve done that 200 pages ago??I finished it, yes. But I regret it. It’s one of the dullest books I’ve read.1.5 stars, and that’s me being generous because a few moments were decent.

Honestly I was bound to like this at least a little because I have been sold on Greek Mythology since I was like 9 years old. Also...as a Telemachus girlie, this was both weird and really good. This hit? And I am the first confused about it.

I have to say im pretty fucking impressed with how this is madeline miller's second book and she already has my heart you guys. While this wasn't as emotional as her debut novel(for me at least) it was really engaging. I love her writing but if you don't like slow books it probably won't work for you.Enjoyment wise this book is a 5 stars read but comapred to her first book i would give it 4 stars. So my actual rating for this book is 4.5/5 which is a very weird thing to say???i hope you guys will pick this book up it's really good.

the first half at least was like a fairy tale

I liked the quieter sections most: immortality becomes interesting when it feels repetitive rather than glamorous. Circe's growth is gradual, stubborn, and often lonely. The myth retellings feel connected by character rather than by checklist.

The greatest appreciation of a woman who deserved better

a fantastic emotional book, i loved it, i cried several timeseverything is beautifully woven into each other, i loved and hated every character, and watching circe grow is amazingthe story itself is more like a biography though, it is just a series of things that happen, and while it is exciting to read, it can be a bit of a drag in points
