BookPine ("we", "us") runs the website https://www.bookpine.com/ and the BookPine mobile apps (the "service"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have.

BookPine is operated by Devpri SRL, a company registered in Romania (EUID ROONRC.J2016001465234), which is the controller of your personal information. For any privacy question or request, email info@bookpine.com.

Information we collect

  • Account information: your name, username, email address, password and profile details.
  • Content you add to your library or profile.
  • Messages you send us, including to our support team and the PineAI assistant.
  • Membership information: your plan and its status.
  • Device and activity data: information about your device and how you use the service.
  • Cookies and similar technologies, as described below.

How we use your information

We use personal information for the purposes below. Where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, the legal basis is shown in brackets.

  • To provide the service and its features, including your account, library, statistics, recommendations and community features (performance of our contract with you).
  • To send you service messages, such as email verification and security notices (performance of our contract with you).
  • To send optional emails and notifications, which you can turn off at any time (your consent or our legitimate interest).
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix errors (our legitimate interest).
  • To understand how the service is used, using optional cookies only where you have agreed to them (your consent).
  • To meet our legal obligations (legal obligation).

Cookies

We use essential cookies to run the service, and optional cookies to understand how it is used. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, optional cookies are off until you agree to them. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

  • Other users and the public, according to your privacy settings.
  • Service providers that work for us under contract, such as hosting, email, payment, sign-in, analytics, customer support and AI providers. They may use your information only to provide their service to us.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect rights and safety.
  • A successor, if BookPine is involved in a merger or sale.

Book pages may contain links to booksellers, some of which are affiliate links. We do not send your personal information to these sellers.

Where your information is kept

Your information is stored on our servers in the European Union and protected with appropriate security measures. Some of our service providers may process limited information outside the European Union. Where they do, we make sure it is protected by the safeguards EU law requires. You can ask us for details.

How long we keep information

We keep your information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise it, except where we must keep some of it to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or prevent abuse.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can see, correct, export and delete your information from your account, turn off optional emails and notifications, and change your cookie choices. For any other request, email info@bookpine.com. We may need to confirm your identity first. Requests are free, and we will never treat you worse for making one.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland. You have the right to access, correct, erase and receive a copy of your information, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw your consent at any time. We reply within one month. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

California. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to receive a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. In the past 12 months we have collected identifiers, internet activity, commercial information, content you create and inferences used for recommendations, for the purposes described above. We do not sell or share personal information. You or an authorised agent can make a request by email, and we reply within 45 days.

Australia. We handle your personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. You can ask to access or correct it. Your information is stored in the European Union, and some of our service providers may process it in other countries. If you have a complaint, email us and we will respond within 30 days.

Other countries. We honour requests to access, correct or delete personal information from all users, wherever they live, within the time your local law requires.

Children

BookPine is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Where local law sets a higher age (up to 16 in parts of the European Union), younger users need a parent or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has given us personal information without it, email us and we will delete it.
