This book was meh. I didn't dislike it but I also didn't like it. Like every other classic I've read, it contains a lot of misogyny, which wouldn't be that big of a problem in an old book if it also didn't have the main character think about SA-ing a woman, who later (SPOILER ALERT)Is like, totally so into him because he had that thought??? The first part of the story was OK, bit of misogyny sprinkled in, as I mentioned. Then the middle part of this was a snoozefest and I skipped like half of it because I couldn't care less. And the ending was also okay at best. Not the worst book I've read but definitely not a good book.
A heavy, unforgettable read—easily one of the best books I've ever picked up. Watching Winston Smith's journey from defiance to... what he becomes by the end, felt like living through a slow, crushing heartbreak. 1984 made me angry, sad, and achingly hopeless. This isn’t just fiction—it’s a warning. And the real fear? Knowing Orwell wrote this in 1949, and realizing how much closer we've drifted to the nightmare he imagined.

Desde que soy chica que quería leer este libro y valió la pena la espera.Parece imposible que alguien lo haya escrito en 1949, es fascinante la complejidad del universo de la historia y cómo podemos reflejarla en la actualidad (y realmente en cualquier época). Apasionante y muy entretenido.Un final inolvidable y totalmente desgarrador. Me quedé mirando a la nada como no me pasaba desde los capítulos de Black Mirror jajaja.
Listening to Peter Capaldi's audiobook as a reread (after 2 years) was so amazing, i can't believe it. Give every audiobook to him. Let him read the phonebook to me. I need more.
What can I possibly say about this amazing novel, 1984 by George Orwell, that hasn't been already said by many who have read the book for over half a century. When it is said that the book is 'haunting', 'nightmarish', and 'startling' any reader would have to agree! This well known novel grips the reader from the beginning and does not even let go of the grip at the finished reading and the ending what can I say "Winston’s welcomed acceptance and outright love of his defeat is what is so sad. In the end, he utterly betrays himself and all his values – and is glad to do so. If he was just defeated, it would be merely tragic; the hero fallen. In mere defeat, there can at least be a kind of grace or honor of having fought the good fight. But his almost ecstatic joy at being finally and fully defeated makes it so much worse. There is no dignity, no hope, no self, no human being left. And, of course, that’s the point.". A classic you won't want to miss if you haven't taken the time to read it yet.
I took up this book primarily because it was being referred multiple times on various social networking sites as a must-read. (I did read the plot summary when I was about half way through the book, so that was a downer for me personally)I am not going to comment on the literary style and similar stuff. I do understand the point this book is trying to make. But I do not agree with it. I guess, I am too optimistic. At some places there was a chilling similarities between the fiction and current realities.If you want a feel good book this is not the one for you. But sometimes such books are necessary to alter our perspective, to help us to be vigilant. After all, Concentration camps did exist in a democratic country.
