While the case at some points could be gripping, I found DS Hart's repetition and hyper-focus on certain suspects to be tiresome. As others have mentioned, the book focused on the process of gathering clues, interviewing families etc., which I did like. Although, in the end, she was right about the girls' being on the Palmer property, again, I found her fixation on it being Jasper or his father's doing to be annoying, and it was quite obvious to me that it wasn't. However, Cathy's involvement did surprise me. I liked the brief insight into some of the other detectives' home lives, and overall it wasn't a bad book. DS Hart just didn't connect with me. However, I do think she could grow on me, so I might give the next book a try. I'd like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an advanced copy. Unfortunately, it took a while for me to get into the book and then school got in the way.
