I just could not put this book down. I am absolutely in love and was not expecting every twist and turn that happened. I cant wait to read Nightbane!
there is a lot to handle in this book but i enjoyed it a lot.
Honest thoughts really... the book is captivating, emotionally engaging, well paced and extremely interesting. However, if I'm team Oro or team Grim, I'd say team no one... what do you mean both are triators at some point? And not a mild betrayal either... even then I'll have to wait for my second book to arrive in a week... (I'll angrily anticipating)
5⭐️Twists, turns, friendships, enemies, powers, a deadline.....what more do you want?! One of my favourite fantasy books to date!
4.5🌟This book was a complete adventure for me, though it took a while to into it I was so happen when it finally took off. I had to cover half of the page so I didn't spoil myself! I couldn't get through it fast enough. I already have the second book and I can't wait to see how this adventure continues!

I read this book for 3 main reasons:1. I bought it when I was 18 (I'm about to turn 20 so...)2. I was bored out of my mind during my administrative law lessons and reading and ebook was better than just scrolling trough instagram.3. I've promised myself that my TBR is going to decrease until it reaches an acceptable level.The book per se is nor good nor bad. It simply is. I think it could have been amazing if the author had taken a bit longer to work on things like worldbuilding, quotes and, perhaps, the names of her characters (they're not bad but... Grim, dark lord, spooky... not very original).All of the above make the book deserve a one star rating since it served it pourpuse. The aditional two stars? One is for how easy it was to read it, was it because it felt like I've already read it? Maybe, but I'm not gonna be complaining about it. The other one? Well, if a book has any quote (romantic, sad, violent... whatever) that makes my little witchy brain say "you like it so... shivering it is" said book gets a star so... No thoughts, just vibes, and another star for this book.If you have free time and nothing better to do, read this books. If you want to read a remix of most of the YA romantasy books ever published, read this book. If you want to read something new and mindblowiong that doesn't make you have flashbacks from when you read "that popular book", do not read this book.
I have to admit, the initial booktok drama made me want to stay far away from this book. Then I forgot about it.... Until I saw Alex Aster absolutely beaming while talking about her sequel. Like what?! I thought this girl was bullied out of everyone's TBR piles. The fact she didn't let any of that get her down or shut her up, that she could still radiate joy and be so enthusiastic about her work to continue writing in the face of (what I thought was) failure, made me want to give it a chance. And I'm so glad I did! Was it perfect? No. The beginning was clunky, wordy, yet explained nothing, the prose at times showed inexperience, sequence of events and jumping around talking about them could have been edited better, the romances needed some more connection, and there was a lot of telling instead of showing. HOWEVER. The story continued to capture my interest. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and some of the questions I had about things that weren't really making sense were explained in the rapid fire ending of twist after twist after twist as finally information was revealed! YES!! The layout and structure was there, it all made sense, and I absolutely loved it! If you can hand-wave the premise a bit, it's an adventurous book about solving a riddle. Don't listen to the marketing, and don't worry if you don't understand the whole thing about the island, because the world building isn't really there. You don't need it for this story. There's potential to expand this into more of a fantasy rather than a fun time, but who cares. It's fun, and I'm glad I gave it a chance. I look forward to more from Alex as she continues to hone her writing craft to support her story ideas.
