As a Huang fan, I found this to be a little disappointing. I LOVE her twisted series and LIKE her Kings of Sin series. But this didn’t live up to the hype of her other books. I don’t know if it’s because this is the first book she published or if it’s because I’ve read all the series in the wrong order, but it just didn’t have the same romance feel as her other books. Though it started off good, it just sort of got boring towards the middle and the end where it felt like you wasn’t really getting to know the characters and everything was just happening so briefly. Too briefly, for my liking. And then…one of the worst tropes I hate in a book happened. Blake being duped into thinking the baby was his only to find out in the next book that it wasn’t years after the miscarriage when Cleo wasn’t so selfish…yeah, let’s just say I stay away from those types of books for a reason. And no hate to Huang, cause I really do love her books, but this is nowhere near as good as her other series. It just didn’t do it for me, at all, which makes me really sad. :(
Rating: ★★★★1/2Ana Huang's latest novel, "If We Ever Meet Again," takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster through the intricate landscape of strangers turned friends turned lovers. Published by Piaktus on June 27, 2023, this steamy romance presents a departure from Huang's previous Twisted Series and King of Sin Series, setting a new standard for the eagerly anticipated If Love Series. The story follows the lives of two vastly different individuals, Farrah and Blake, whose paths unexpectedly intersect during their study abroad experience in Shanghai. Farrah, an aspiring interior designer with dreams of a fairytale romance, contrasts sharply with Blake, a former football star who staunchly believes that love is nothing more than a deceptive game. Their clashing personalities and convictions create an undeniable tension that serves as the foundation for the journey that unfolds.Huang masterfully weaves a tale of love that is at once heartwarming and heart-wrenching. The slow progression from strangers to friends to lovers is skillfully developed, allowing readers to invest deeply in their evolving relationship. The portrayal of their emotions is vivid and relatable, making the reader's connection to the characters and their story even more profound. The book expertly explores themes of personal growth, the complexities of love, and the challenges that come with pursuing one's desires in the face of societal and personal expectations. As the story delves into the deepening bond between Farrah and Blake, it becomes apparent that their connection is threatened by external forces, including Blake's lingering ties to his past, notably his ex-girlfriend Cleo. The only drawback highlighted in the review is the role of Cleo, which appears to have dampened the overall enjoyment of the love story for the reviewer. However, this critique does not overshadow the reviewer's appreciation for the blossoming romance between Farrah and Blake. The reviewer expresses hope that the subsequent installments in the If Love Series will allow the central couple to overcome their obstacles and solidify their love.In conclusion, "If We Ever Meet Again" is a testament to Ana Huang's prowess in crafting emotionally charged and intricate romance narratives. With its engaging character development, evocative depiction of emotions, and exploration of the challenges love can entail, this novel captivates readers from start to finish. Despite minor criticisms, the reviewer's enthusiasm for Farrah and Blake's relationship shines through, leaving readers eager to discover how their journey unfolds in the upcoming installments of the series.
