Beskrivning

In a richly woven tale set against the backdrop of 16th-century England, the story follows the intricate lives of those caught in the whirlwind of love, betrayal, and ambition. The characters, each distinct and deeply complex, navigate the challenges of a rapidly changing society, where the remnants of feudalism give way to a burgeoning sense of individualism and enterprise.

As fortunes rise and fall, the reader is drawn into the personal struggles and aspirations of each figure. They grapple with their desires in a world where social status dictates not just power, but the very essence of identity. The protagonist’s journey is highlighted by a passionate exploration of nature, family ties, and the relentless pursuit of dreams in a society that often stifles them.

The narrative is both a vivid historical account and an intimate character study, revealing the human spirit's resilience in the face of adversity. With intertwined fates and undeniable tensions, the story unfolds, inviting readers to witness the transformative power of love and the cost of ambition.

I read this inadvertently prior to the first book [b:Earthly Joys|161850|Earthly Joys|Philippa Gregory|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1347742771s/161850.jpg|837847]. I really enjoyed this book and loved learning about this historical period.SpoilerI'm not sure how true to fact the method by which the Tradescant's rarities ended up in the hands of Mr Ashmole but either way Ashmole ended up with them and created the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. After reading Earthly Joys I popped in to the museum and there is some mention of the Tradescants plus their portraits hang in the lower ground floor exhibition (I am not sure that any of their rarities remain though).
