This is a hard review to write. Not for any reason in particular.To get into things I liked. I enjoy the story and plot as a whole. I like Gaimans writing. I love the vibe and atmosphere of the story. It has always been a favourite of mine. The cat is definitely my favourite character. However, I watched the movie first (as I am sure, a lot of us did). The movie felt more fleshed out than the book. However that might be because of the movie being catered towards an older audience as well. I don't actually have any issues with the book, there are just some things I preferred more in the movie vs the book and vice versa. However this book will stay on my shelves to be treasured.
I adored it! I love the movie but this no where compares to it, it is a lot more scary then i thought it would be lolz I think this is a 10/10 for a cozy spooky ready I adore it!

I like how this book begins,but it didn't hold my interest until the very end.I suppose it's a bit childish for me!I wonder what I would have thought about it as a kid.
As a fan of the movie I was a little sad that Wybie was not a character and there was no doll. But all in all a perfect read for Halloween. Very quick book to read and I’m happy to say that I enjoyed reading this.
{October 2023}Oh my god!I don’t have any words for this book/movie because although this is a children book/movie the movie really did scared me. The whole time while watching the movie after finishing the book I was thinking: What the hell? This is suppose to be a children movie? No way!They look so scary and the other mother is just scary and mean. I think if kids watch this movie they don’t look at it the way we adults do it, but holy shit just don’t know what to say or think about it Anyway, a few things between the movie and the book didn’t really made any sense but don’t have anything bad to say about it - except for the movie and how scary it was and how horrible the characters looked like - but it was a funny one too{October 2024} It's been a year since I have read this book and watched the movie. Last year I was pretty shocked how much of a horror vibe the kids movie had and didn't considered it myself to be a movie designed for kids. This year, I do it the other way around: reading the book first and then watching the movie because after thinking about it, I did enjoy the book and movie last year and as of now I just want to dive back into it and see if there's something I missed the first time. Still a good book and still a good movie - I actually love the style the movie is made in, but I do not consider it as kids movie yet. There is too much happening but I guess watching it as a kid, you won't see it that way I do it now.
Children's book this is not! It is written in a style for children, though there were even some vocabulary words I didn't know, but the content is so... adult!If you've seen the movie, it is much like it. I love that they kept it close to the book and wonder if the playwright (or is it screenwright?) if friends with the author. I will definitely be reading Neil Gaiman again. (Stardust is already on my list; loved the movie so much!)
The audiobook production of this is phenomenal (Also i have now consumed this story in every single media format it's got.)
A fascinating story. I have seen the movie and now that I've read the book I understand the movie better, even though the book is so much better than the movie.
I absolutely love this book and I give it 5 stars without any reservations. I have been a fan of the movie Coraline since I was a child and I finally got around to reading the book that inspired it. Gaiman's ability to immerse readers in the story and create a chilling atmosphere is truly remarkable. The character of the Other Mother gives me goosebumps.
Wanted to read this before we watched it for our movie night! Love the film but never read it before. Super creepy, especially some of the illustrations.
When I was little Coraline was one of my favourite films.The minute I found out it was a book I instantly bought a copy. It was everything I could have ever imagined. It was even better than the film. It's spooky, suspenseful, everything you want. The creepiness takes a new level. When translating the book to the film, I noticed they took a couple scenes out. For good reasons of course, but it just makes you feel like you have bonus content when you read the book. Same characters but new events. Coraline is a teenager who's not best pleased with her family's recent move to the Pink Palace. Be careful what you wish for, as Coraline embarks on a frightening fantastical adventure. I adore Neil Gaiman's style of writing, his world and character building are just next level.
