i read the first book and i had to ...yes i had to. read the second book in the series.this book was as compelling as the first. i wonder if there will be another? if so I cannot wait for the next instalment.

It's difficult to make up my mind about this book. At one point I really struggled to get through it.The story was at way too descriptive at a certain point, and very hard to enjoy.But, I have to admit, I admire Deborah's talent of writing historically correct, making famous historical people part of the story.I also admire the fact that it builds up to certain climaxes.But I am a bit sad that it took me so long to appreciate the story.Glad to have read it. Not planning on reading it a second time.Not sure whether I'll give her third one a try.

Deborah Harkness has weaved a wonderful tale of adventure, love, loss, family and hope; Shadow of Night is the second book in the All Souls Trilogy. If book three is as good as one and two this trilogy with be on my top 10 series of all time. Diana Bishop has the vampire, Matthew Clairmont and the magic, now they just need to find a witch to help her learn to use it. Finding the Ashmole 782 would be helpful. They agree to travel back in time to find a skilled witch to teach Diana to use her powers.History comes to life as Diana meets characters she's only read about in books. And she and Matthew have to learn to share their secrets with each other. I give this book 5 stars.
