This was my firs Agatha Christie book that I finished. I started one but couldn't get past the first 50 pages yesterday and was recommended this one as one of her top selling ones. Definitely a fabulous read. I tried guessing who it was, and failed miserably. Even right up until the end - still failed! Such a twist in the ending that I did not expect! Wonderful book.
No Poirot No Miss Marple No Tommy and Tuppence! Outside her 'meat and two veg' detectives AC struggles badly . None.. very much labours under the burden of being too smart for its own good. Did I like it? No but I was expecting something wonderful and disappointment reigns. Someone out there please tell me this review is wrong.

I can truly see why Agatha Christie has earned the title of the world's bestselling author. This book was a great story, it was pure mystery from the first page to the last. I loved every second of this novel!
"should've seen it coming" - as I say with every mystery I complete.
Let me just say that this was a great mystery, I had no idea what the hell was happening or who was responsible. When the cops finally appeared, I thought the book was going to end right there and I'd be left in the dark, utterly confused as to what had happened. Thankfully, it was explained quite nicely and everything started to make sense.I'd say this was worth the three week hold I had to place on this just to listen haha

What a fantastic mystery! Of course, it was one of Christie's favorites. I have to admit that the ending didn't quite make sense to me, but I can understand how we got there. I think I read the updated version since, in this edition, the island is called Soldier Island instead of Indian Island, so I’m not sure if I missed something. Regardless, it kept me hooked throughout the entire story. I highly recommend it; it's definitely a must-read for Christie fans.
Before reading this book, I had heard a lot of hype about it from fellow teachers and students and I had always heard that Agatha Christie was the queen of mystery. I unfortunately was kind of disappointed by the lack of detail in this book. I loved the ending where it all comes together and I love the riddle woven throughout. Those aspects bumped up my rating for this one. I guess I was just expecting more.Based on what I had heard before picking this up and given other mystery/thrillers I have read before, I thought there would be more character development, more finger pointing, more mystery and description of everything that happened. But there were some parts where it just felt like "and oh, btw, he's dead." Honestly without the riddle, I might have stopped reading. But the riddle definitely brings it all together. What is going to happen to every character and who is the mastermind behind all of this horror? I first had to write down who everyone was so I could keep it all straight and then as they started dropping like flies, my suspicions changed several times. I ultimately guessed wrong so the ending was really awesome. I guess I would have to say that I understand why this book is a classic and I would definitely recommend it to people but for me, considering how much I love mystery/thrillers, this one was just middle of the road.
