View AllI found this book to be more enjoyable than the previous books in the main series. I felt like the romance was a explored more slowly and the relationship developed more intensely than the previous pairing. The slow burn was pleasing and we could actually see how the dynamics gradually changed. I also really fell in love with Mische in this duology compared to the original - the way she sacrifices and diminishes herself for everyone around her was incredibly sad but touching. The MMCs tattoos, powers, scars, and eye didn't hurt either. I can't wait to see how the characters continue in the next story and how it ties in with the rest of the series.
Everyone Carrie’s burdens, some scar deeper than others. It’s not what happened to you that defines you, it’s what you do with the opportunities presented in challenging times that the instances give you. The push and pull of inner turmoil between the two main characters, between life and death, good and bad, made this book intense. The pinnacle of war and love balanced on a thin line, tipping this series past the breaking point of plot points that came before.
